Research Statement
My research interests have the overarching theme of using technological solutions to create skills and remove barriers to positive social change. My PhD investigated the use of telehealth to deliver behaviour analytic training to parents of pre-school-aged autistic children. A parent training model can create positive behaviour change, increased empowerment with maximised benefits in life quality. The strategies selected reflected my own interests as a practitioner, as they were designed to be used in play, create and capture motivation to increase communication whilst ensuring child assent throughout.
During my previous role as a researcher at the University of Galway, I have trained education, health, social care professionals in innovative assitive technologies on the Erasmus+ funded DDSkills project. My future research goals involve expanding my research in technology driven behaviour analysis and I am currently working alongside the Univeristy of Galway on a project using Virtual Reality to teach autistic adults how best to respond in emergency situations.
As a dually qualified behaviour analysts and teacher I have broader research interests in training education staff to implement evidence-based strategies through play, with a particular focus on early intervention in early years settings.
