Research Focus

I am especially interested in assessing animal affective states and farm animal welfare with a focus on pigs and dairy cattle. I am currently researching the effect of enrichment on pig health, behaviour, and performance. The project is a part of HealthyLivestock. I am also working on the publications from my PhD project "The effect of early social environment on dairy calf development". I am also interested in a study of animal pain and effects of early (social) environment on animal development.

Research Interests

I love research on animal behaviour, cognition, and welfare. I am fascinated how smart animals can be (e.g., while solving various tasks) and their capacity to feel and express emotions.

I have started my scientific career with the research on behaviour and welfare of captive red pandas. After finishing my master, I got the PhD position on dairy calf welfare. While working on this topic under supervision of Marek Špinka, I fell in love with calves. I also realized how important is farm animal wellbeing and decided to focus on research in farm animals. I think that the most important aspect of (farm) animal welfare is how they feel in their hoousing conditions (i.e., if they perceive their situation as "good" or "bad"). Therefore, I am particularly interested in the methods on assessing affective states.
