Research Statement
Having previously held post-doctoral positions at the University of Warwick & Queen's University Law School/ Senator George J Mitchell Institute, Kevin was appointed Lecturer in Criminology at QUB in September 2021. He became a Fellow at the Mitchell Institute in 2023, currently working within the Legacy theme group there. His research interests include critical criminology, zemiology, human rights, victimology, transitional justice, while methodologically he has developed a focus on narrative analysis, critical discourse analysis and the use of memoir. His monograph Critical Engagement: Irish Republicanism, Memory Politics & Policing was published in 2017, representing the first comprehensive overview of the changing relationship between post-Good Friday Agreement Irish Republicanism and reformed policing in the north of Ireland. Kevin has published in leading international journals like Law & Society, British Journal of Criminology, Social & Legal Studies, International Journal of Transitional Justice and International Review of Victimology. He has also presented his research at major international and national conferences like the European Society of Criminology Conference, the Critical Legal Conference, and the SLSA Conference.
