Particulars

Laura Steele is a Reader (Education) of Business Ethics and Sustainability at Queen's Business School, where she also serves as the Director of Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability. As part of this role, she is extensively involved in promoting and advancing the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

In 2022, Laura was elected to the PRME UK and Ireland Chapter Steering Committee, where she serves as Vice-Chair, Co-Lead for Organisational Learning and SIP Reporting, and Co-Lead for the PRME Island of Ireland Local Network. Since 2019, she has been involved in developing and organising the PRME UK and Ireland Chapter Seed Funding Competition for Developing Innovative Pedagogic Approaches and Teaching Practices in PRME.  

Laura has a particular interest in ethics, social responsibility, sustainability, and technology. In 2024, she co-edited AI and Work: Transforming Work, Organizations, and Society in an Age of Insecurity (Sage, Forthcoming) with Professor John Bratton. She teaches modules on Artificial Intelligence in Business and Society, Business Governance and Ethics, Contemporary Issues in Leadership and Management, and Public Sector Management. 

Laura developed and hosts the QBS Good Business Podcast, which aims to go beyond the bottom line and examine the ethical, social, and environmental responsibilities of businesses. She also regularly contributes to the School's Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability Blog on diverse topics including the potential ethical implications of Artificial Intelligence and human rights concerns within the fashion industry.  

Laura is a member of the Queen's Business School Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee and is actively involved in Widening Participation within the School.

Research Interests

Laura's doctoral research focused on corporate social capital creation and transfer amongst SME owner-managers in Northern Ireland. Or, in other words, how social networks can be utilised to improve business performance. Since graduating, her research interests have expanded to include business ethics, in particular issues around integrating/improving ethics education across a variety of organisational contexts.
