Activities per year
I am a Research Fellow and member of the Center for Improving Health Related Quality of Life (CIHRQoL), currently involved collaborative projects between the School of Psychology and external partners at Health Education England North West (HEE). My work involves developing and evaluating an education model for dental nurses, including analysis and incorporation of materials from the successful Dental RECUR Brief-Negotiated Interview (DR-BNI) Randomised Controlled Trial. DR-BNI is a proven dental nurse-led intervention that results in a significant reduction of dental caries in children who have had, or who are about to have, primary tooth extractions (Pine et al., 2020). I am a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) with the British Psychological Society, and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
I am a 1st-year undergraduate tutor in the School of Psychology, and support teaching in the DEN1019 (Clinical and Professional Skills 1), DEN2025 (Dental Public Health and Behavioural Science), and DEN2029 (Clinical and Professional Skills 2) Dentistry modules during the 2020-2021 academic year.
My current interests are in Health and Applied Psychology; designing and facilitating the delivery of psychological interventions to improve behaviour in public health settings (e.g., dental practice, debt management).
Previously, my PhD research explored reading and learning behaviour in university students. It investigated hypertext navigation and comprehension, focusing on several cognitive factors including working memory and metacognition.
Other areas of interest include: relationships between problem debt, regrets, and future-self-connectedness; the effects of generalised anxiety on working memory (using 7.5% CO2 inhalation paradigm); anxiolytic potential of cognitive-enhancing drugs (i.e., nootropics).
