Dr Baxter’s research focuses on farm animal welfare and behaviour, with a particular interest in commercial broiler chicken welfare. Her research has explored ways of using environmental enrichment to improve broiler welfare and production, as well as investigating positive behaviours and play in chickens. Dr Baxter is part of a research group headed by Professor Niamh O’Connell. This group specializes in applied, on-farm research, with much of their work funded by the agri-food industry.
