Research Interests
My interests move between the fin de siècle and modernism, with a particular focus on the relationship between aesthetics and politics in modern literature. My research interests also include:
- Irish literature and politics
- British and Irish modernism
- Aesthetic theory
- Critical and cultural theory
My PhD thesis, 'Irish modernity in Ulster: 1898-1912', focuses on:
- Political commitment in Irish literature, drama and commemoration
- Regional modernisms and the Ulster little magazine
- Romantic Hellenism and the modernist Bildungsroman
- Satiric modernism, myth and politics in early twentieth-century Irish drama
I am also working on a bibliographic study of modern Irish art-writing at the turn of the twentieth century.
