My research utilises the online training paradigm to provide a cost-effective and widely accessible Verbal Behaviour approach training for practitioners in the form of a hybrid training module.
VB approach uses functional language curriculum that teaches multiple functions of language instead of teaching the form or topography of language. Research has shown that the VB approach is effective in teaching communication skills to children with ASD. Training in the VB approach is hugely beneficial for all practitioners working with children with ASD. The aim of my research is to fulfil the need for effective training strategies and support for practitioners on how to teach these verbal operants and help children with ASD develop functional communication skills.
Online based training is employed to widen the reach of the VB approach training and thus benefit more children with ASD. It is used to provide teaching and learning opportunities by using the internet even when the trainees and instructors are separated geographically or by the time difference. A self-learning online training program can overcome many of the challenges in providing ABA training for practitioners in remote locations and busy schedules. It allows practitioners to access training from anywhere and to complete the training at their own pace.
The evidence gathered from the study provides a deeper understanding of the efficacy of online training in disseminating best practices for practitioners in order to meet the communication needs of more individuals with ASD.
