Dr Nikolaos Perogamvros received his Diploma and PhD degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics of the University of Patras, Greece. Currently, he is a post-doctoral research fellow at Queen's University Belfast and at Northern Ireland Advanced Composites and Engineering Centre (NIACE).

His scientific interests and specialization are in the fields of lightweight materials characterization and structural element testing at various loading rates, as well as in the numerical simulation of the behaviour of advanced materials and composite structures subjected to quasi-static and dynamic loads. Some of his additional research activities also include: (a) the development of experimental apparatuses for static, medium and high strain rate testing, (b) the structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques using fibre optic sensors (FOS), (c) the digital image correlation (DIC) and non-destructive testing methods, and (d) the advanced manufacturing processes of composite materials.

He has been involved in more than seven EU and UK research projects while his work has been funded by several aeronautical, automotive, defence and civil engineering industries (Dassault Aviation, Airbus, FIAT S.p.A., Thales Air Defense, etc.).
