Personal profile

Research Focus

My main researh focus in on Smart and Metrology Enabled Manufacturing, combining and linking the process and product verification from the cyber to the physical domains. The verification thread is an enabler of new generation design and manufacturing, facilitating the design and manufacturing of products with minimal or zero testing and trial and error process development. The digital twin technologies are ustised in this context. I am also interested in resilient and capable production networks and supply chain readiness and this is a practice based topic in which I have a lot of interactions with manufacturing companies.

Research Interests

Digital Factory and Process Modelling

Metrology-Enabled Manufacturing Technology

Design and Process Verification

Aerospace Assembly, Machining and Tooling Technology

Achievements

Created advanced research centres at Durham and Bath Universities.

Worked with blue chip companies including Airbus (Framework Agreement relationship whilst at Bath), Rolls-Royce, Renishaw, Airbus Defence and Space, Caterpillar, Nissan and Thorn Lighting

At Bath formed the Laboratory for Integrated Metrology Applications (LIMA) (2006-2015) that was formally recognised by Airbus as a Framework Agreement University Lab, and formed research partnerships with NPL, Rolls-Royce and Renishaw.

Collaboration with National Physical Laboratory on Industrial Metrology

Published 274 papers, 91 in Learned Journals, (h index = 32 Research Gate and 29 Pure)

Multiple Distinctions and Awards, including receiving the 'Joseph Whitworth Prize' of the IMechE, best paper awards from SAGE and IEE and numerous Conferences, presented many invited Keynote papers, and was invited to give the prestigious 'Alistair Graham-Bryce Memorial Lecture' of the IMechE.
