Research Statement
Paula Devine is Co-director of ARK, which is a joint initiative between Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University making social science information widely accessible (see www.ark.ac.uk). Paula has been involved in the recording of public attitudes in Northern Ireland for over 20 years, and is director of the annual Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey (www.ark.ac.uk/nilt). Paula also coordinates the ARK Ageing Programme, which supports knowledge engagement between the age, academic and policy sectors in Northern Ireland (www.ark.ac.uk/ap). Along with Gemma Carney, she set up the Northern Ireland branch of the British Society of Gerontology, and was a member of the Executive Committee for the British Society of Gerontology from 2017 to 2020.
Her PhD research was a methodological study on the measurement of masculinity and mental health.
Research Interests
Paula's research interests are social gerontology, men's health, public attitudes, quantitative methods, and the dissemination of social science information.
Teaching
Paula was first supervisor to Sarah Lawrence's PhD research 'Inside Ageing', which explored the health and wellbeing of older male prisoners.
