Research Focus
Renan graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Brasilia (Brazil) and completed a Master’s in Clinical Psychology and Culture at the same institution. He earned his PhD from the University of Otago (New Zealand) with a thesis titled, "The Experience of Occupational Exposure to Suicide Among Police and Paramedics in New Zealand." This research employed Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to explore how first responders experience suicide-related calls and deaths within the New Zealand context.
Renan is currently a Research Fellow under the guidance of Prof. Cherie Armour, on a project examining the mental health of veterans and their families in Northern Ireland. His research interests include suicide prevention, mental health, critical psychology/suicidology, and qualitative research methods.
