Richard commenced his PhD at Queen’s University Belfast in September 2019. His research focuses on 21st Century American domestic politics and foreign policy, and how this continues to shape geopolitical events.
Richard is a Senior Teacher responsible for Raising Achievement and School Improvement at Ballymoney High School, and is also Head of History.
Richard is a Doctoral Researcher in International Studies at the School of HAPP, under the supervision of Professor Richard English and Dr Peter McLoughlin, self-funded.
Richard's research focuses on the bureaucratic dynamics of the US federal government and how this shapes American third-party involvement in foreign conflicts. He is particularly interested in how US diplomacy when led by the State Department affected successful intervention in the Northern Ireland peace process.
Richard holds an MA in Violence, Terrorism and Security (Distinction for MA Dissertation) from Queen's University Belfast, a Postgraduate Certificate in History Education from Ulster University, and a BA Honours Degree in Modern and Contemporary History from Ulster University.
