Roger is a member of the AI Research Theme. His research interests includes:

  • Novel computing systems including multi-precision computing, edge computing solutions, Field Programmable Gate Arrays
  • Big Data analytics particulalrly focused at manufacturing.
  • Innovative telecommunications hardware platforms incorporating edge AI technology for advanced secuirty and IoT applications.

Achievements

  • Co-founder and Chief Scientist of Analytics Engines Ltd., a company providing data analytics solutions which reduces complexity, optimises performance and builds intelligence

  • Leadership role in establishing and running the EFutures academic network engaged in all aspects of electroncis research in technology/design including a major review into semiconductors

  • Principal Investigator for the Kelvin-2 Tier-4 High Performance Computing centre involving Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University
  • Awarded the IET Northern Ireland’s Engineering Excellence Award, presented annually to an individual in recognition of their significant achievements throughout their career and major contributions to further the engineering profession in Northern Ireland
  • Member of the EPSRC's Strategic Advisory Team on Information, Communications and Technology 

  • Designer of a number of innovative microchips with industry for data processing, commercial standards conversion technology.

  • Previous Advisory board member to the IEEE Signal Processing Society Technical Committee on the Design and Implementation of Signal Processing Systems

  • Expert witness on STEM to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2007

  • Previous chair of the Engineering Policy Group Northern Ireland

  • General chair of the 2018 International International Symposium on Applied Reconfigurable Computing and the 2014 Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers.
