Personal profile

Particulars

I achieved my BSc in sports and exercise psychology from the University of Central Lancashire in 2017, followed by my MSc in 2018. I am currently a final year clinical health psychology PhD student. My PhD is focused on the development and evaluation of a psychological intervention to improve health among caregivers of children with Type 1 Diabetes. Throughout this project, I have contributed to the existing body of published clinical health psychology research within the school.

Research Interests

My main research interests reside in the development of psychological interventions to improve mental and physical health among caregivers of children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). In particular, I am interested in investigating the impact of a child’s diagnosis of T1D on their caregivers, and exploring ways to support their adjustment. My PhD therefore began with a mixed-methods systematic review on the efficacy and acceptability of Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) among caregivers of children with chronic conditions. I then began to collaborate with caregivers of children with T1D through another mixed methods study exploring their support needs, and a PPI consultation exercise investigating their treatment preferences. I then used the data collected from these studies to tailor a psychological intervention, which was then piloted among a group caregivers of children with T1D.
