Research Interests

Experienced Senior Lecturer with a successful record of publication and teaching in Higher Education. My focus is on active learning, laboratory based teaching, interdisciplinarity and encouraging students to think outside of narrow silos.  Curiosity is curiosity, beautiful and enriching in all its forms; if you're laughing, you're learning.

I have over 30 years experience in lecturing, public speaking, laboratory teaching, small group presentations, group facilitation, and general higher education teaching. I Graduated with a Ph.D from University College Dublin and St Vincent's Hospital Elm Park with further postgraduate qualifications in education from Queens University Belfast. I have been elected as a Fellow of the Physiological Society and am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE.

I have a consistent and sustained publication history in innovative education for students of science, medicine and allied professions.  I am currently leading on interprofessional education and collaboration with Art, Music, Business and Drama professionals  in enhancing the experience of students at university level, contributing to the June 7th 2022 Physiological Society Report to Parliament on the value of physiology education and training to UK Society.

I delivered the Physiological Society Paton Prize Lecture at the “Physiology in Focus” meeting in 2024.  This honoured the life and achievements of the First World War Irish Neurologist and battle medic, Sir Gordon Morgan Holmes.
