Research Interests

Shibo Zou is a Lecturer in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. Shibo received his PhD from Polytechnique Montréal in Canada, after which he worked as a postdoc at AMOLF institute and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He joined the academic staff at Queen’s in 2025.

Shibo aims to translate bioinspired mechanical design principles into smart devices for aerospace, agri-food, and healthcare applications. He received a prestigious Dutch research grant (Veni) awarded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research in 2024. He is also affiliated with the Department of BioMechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology, where he is designing self-sensing soft robotic grippers for agri-food and healthcare applications.
