Research Focus

Since January 2024, I have been working with the Aberdeen Belfast Evidence Collaboration (ABEC) as a Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis, based in the Centre for Public Health. Prior to this I was a Senior Research Fellow/Research Fellow in the Department of Surgery, Trinity College Dublin. I completed a PhD in 2014.

In my role as an Evidence Synthesist with the ABEC team, I have completed two complex reviews: 1) a three-part review of Breast Density in Breast Cancer Screening and 2) Biomarkers to Predict Deterioration in Patients Presenting to ED with Clinically Suspected Sepsis. I am currently working on a two-part review of Risk Stratification in Breast Cancer Screening.

I hold an Evidence Synthesis Ireland SWAR grant to evaluate how best to communicate the findings of systmatic reviews to the public. I am also working on a systemtic review of long- and short-term complications in chronic pancreatitis-associated type 3c diabetes.

I am a collaborator on several studies focusing on Pancreatic Cancer with colleagues in the Centre for Public Health at QUB and the Belfast Trust.

My background is in Nutrition and Pancreatic Disease. I also worked in Clinical Nutrition Practice in Tallaght University Hosptial for almost 10 years.

I have an interest in digital interventions for chronic disease, pancreatogenic diabetes, bone health, obesity, pancreatic cancer, poly-cystic ovarian syndrome, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, intermittent fasting/ time-restricted eating.

As well as extensive supervisory/ co-supervisory experience from undergraduate to PhD level, I provide teaching to several QUB courses including  BSc Biomedical Sciences, BSc Human Biology, MSc Public Health/Global Health, and MB Medicine on various topics including Nutrition, Dietetics, Statistics, and Chronic Disease. I also guest lecture annually on the MSc Dietetics course in the University of Limerick.
