Teaching

I am a Lecturer (Education) on the Year 1 Undergraduate BSc Professional Nursing (Adult Nursing) programme within the School of Nursing and Midwifery, where I teach across all first-year modules. I also serve as the module co-ordinator for Professionalism in Nursing (Feb Intake) and SafeMedicate 1 (Sept Intake). In addition, I hold the role of link lecturer for several clinical placement areas.

At postgraduate level, I occupy the role of Postgraduate Short Course Lead in Dementia Care and teach on the Pathway for the PG Dip Specialist Practice in Older People's Nursing Programme and the PG Cert in Nursing Care of the Older Person in Care Home Settings. I am actively involved in the supervision of both MSc and PhD students.

I am also the founder and academic lead for the University's Future Ready Planetary Health Champions: Driving Sustainability in Healthcare Programme at the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. 

My academic interests include the co-development and evaluation of educational podcasts, gamification strategies, and other asynchronous learning approaches, particularly as they relate to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Research Interests

I am currently involved in a number of funded research projects.  The common thread of my research is around supporting healthcare professionals to optimise their nursing practice through knowledge translation activities.

Particulars

I am currently the Network Lead for the Royal College of Nursing Northern Ireland Independent Sector. This network represents nurses and healthcare assistants working within the independent sector in Northern Ireland.

I am currently the chair of the steering committee for the Royal College of Nursing's Older People's Forum. This forum represents more than 12,000 nurses and support staff providing care to older people in the United Kingdom.

I am a current member of the NIHR Reviewer Development Scheme.  

I am a current Evidence Synthesis Ireland Fellow, working on a methodological review of methods and mechanisms for measuring and monitoring outcomes from newborn screening.

I am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE.

I am a member of the European Academy of Nursing Sciences (EANS).

I am a member of the National League of Nursing (NLN).

I occupy the role of Early Career Editorial Board Member of MDPI Nursing Reports. 

I am a Department of Education Board of Governor. 

I am a SisterIN Mentor.

As a SFHEA, I contribute to the promotion of teaching excellence at Queen’s University Belfast through my role as a mentor for the QMA HEA Fellowships.
