Research Interests

Dr Maguire is a Research Fellow in Mental Health at Queen’s Communities and Place (QCAP) where she works across the Community Health and Wellbeing dimension of place-based research. QCAP is a research focused initiative built on engagement and partnership between local communities, policymakers and academics, with the aim of addressing complex health challenges through community based participatory research.

Stephanie is a Lecturer within the M.Sc. Psychology Programme at Ulster University’s School of Psychology. Her teaching responsibilities span a range of key areas in Psychology including Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Individual Differences, Cognitive Psychology, Qualitative Research Methods and Project Design. Dr Maguire also provides supervision for postgraduate research projects in the field of Psychology.

Previously Stephanie worked as a Research Fellow at both Ulster University and Queen’s University Belfast. Her work to date has involved projects concerned with adolescent mental health and wellbeing, adolescent dating violence and neurodiverse adolescents. Stephanie was part of the team who, via a participatory research approach, adapted and validated the first self-report measures (ID-SWEMWS and ID-Kidscreen10) to assess health-related quality of life and mental wellbeing among neurotypical adolescents.

During 2015 Stephanie was awarded a fully funded PhD studentship by the Department of Employment and Learning (DEL) in Northern Ireland in collaboration with the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work (SSESW) at Queen's University Belfast. Her doctoral research employed a mixed-methods design to explore young people's attitudes towards intimate partner violence (IPV) and the potential role of preventative education in schools. This research has since been published in the British Educational Research Journal and presented at the European Conference on Domestic Violence (ECDC).
