Research Focus

My research project, entitled “Medical Geology: The Impact of the Natural Environment on Health in Past Populations from Ireland and Scotland” focuses on the role of the natural environment and underlying geology in the health status of skeletal populations in Medieval Ireland and Scotland. By examining skeletal indicators of stress for various skeletal populations across Ireland and Scotland, I will attempt to see a correlation between variations in underlying geology and human health.

Particulars

In particular, I will be utilising porotic hyperostosis, cribra orbitalia and linear enamel hypoplasia as skeletal indicators of stress
