Research Focus

Sydney Holt is a PhD candidate in Politics at Queen's University Belfast. Her research focuses on identity as a Foucauldian control mechanism in experiences of socio-political belonging for Roma communities in Europe.

Research Interests

Her research interests include: biopolitics and biopower, belonging, Roma, the census, autochthony discourse, group identity dynamics, identity theory, population demographics, citizenships, minorities, and racism.

Particulars

Sydney graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 with a BA in English and a BA in History. She completed her Masters degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in Holocaust and Genocide Studies (2017).

Before beginning her PhD research, Sydney worked in the non-profit, arts and education sector at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
