Personal profile

Interests

Dr Tahreer M. Fayyad is a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and a Chartered Civil Engineer with an accreditation from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Tahreer has more than fifteen years of technical, managerial and academic experiences in the field of civil engineering and project management. She received her PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2016. She worked in the construction industry before joining QUB as a Daphne Jackson Fellow. Her Fellowship is sponsored by the Royal Society and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and her research project is entitled “Drive-by monitoring (DriMon) towards network level intelligent infrastructure”.

Research Interests

Tahreer has many publications in the field of concrete and reinforced concrete structures, concrete cracking, fracture mechanics and sustainable construction. Her current research project in the field of structural health monitoring will create technology that can deliver interconnected and automated bridge safety ratings through DriMon. The research aims to investigate damage detection and assess the real strength (safety) of existing infrastructure by using drive-by monitoring, which has the potential to be used at a network level for informed decision making and predictive maintenance. This will advance sustainable cities and communities by providing a tool that will help in making infrastructures last longer, hence, save resources. It also has the potential to achieve network level resilience in our civil infrastructure by enabling us to anticipate, adapt and respond to changes.
