PhD projects

Any proposal for a research project that deals with representative politics in ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse contexts from a comparative perspective is warmly welcome. I am particularly interested in the interplay of social and institutional change, equitable representation of citizen interests either via civil society groups, or parties, as well as policies tasked with diversity management. In this context, I welcome research ideas which seek to illuminate the workings and the effects of non-discrimination, minority protection, formal and informal mechanisms of interest articulation and representation by civil society groups but also by political parties. in short, the opportunities and constraints that existing social and political institutions exercise over the dynamic relations between (ethno)national identity, peace and stability, and diversity accommodation, focussing on the postcommunist region or on societies managed by power-sharing institutions.
