Research Statement

Dr. Vasanth Raj Palanimuthu is a researcher in Molecular & Cell biology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Biotechnology, Pharmacology, and Molecular Biology, with a strong focus on translational research that bridges fundamental science with pharmaceutical and clinical applications.
A key area of his research centers on biofilms—complex microbial communities that pose major challenges in healthcare due to their resilience and antibiotic resistance. Dr. Vasanth Raj has developed advanced in vitro static and dynamic biofilm models, including a silicone-based catheter model, which closely mimics clinical scenarios. These models provide critical insights into biofilm architecture, physiology, and response to therapeutics, serving as robust platforms for testing antimicrobial agents, phage therapy, and novel drug delivery systems.
His work also addresses the escalating global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). By exploring bacteriophage therapy and phage display techniques, he aims to offer innovative, targeted strategies to disrupt resistant biofilm-forming pathogens. His research helps drive the development of next-generation antimicrobial solutions with potential clinical applications.
Complementing his microbiological expertise, Dr. Vasanth Raj is actively engaged in cell & molecular biology and pharmaceutical biotechnology, with a focus on the development of recombinant products, biosimilars, biologics, and modern vaccine candidates.
Driven by interdisciplinary innovation, Dr. Vasanth Raj invites research collaborators and motivated students to join his research team. Collaborators will find a dynamic environment promoting integrated research in Cell & molecular bioogy, biofilm biology, molecular pharmaceutics, and microbial therapeutics. Students will gain hands-on experience in high-impact projects, contributing to real-world solutions in infectious disease management, drug development, and vaccine innovation.
