Viviana Fiorentino

My research aims at creating an original poetry collection based on a fictional dialogue between two contemporary poets who never met, American poet Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) and Italian poet Amelia Rosselli (1930-1996), who committed suicide on the same day thirty-three years apart (the first in 1963, the second in 1996). My critical investigation will consist of a comparative analysis of Plath’s and Rosselli’s poetry in the shared context of the 1950s-60s.

Viviana Fiorentino translated Irish poets Freda Laughton (Arcipelago Itaca, 2022), Doireann Ní Ghríofa (VersoDove, 2024), Paula Meehan (Il Pietrisco, 2023) and Lakota poet Layli Long Soldier (Verodove, 2023). She published an essay on Anne Carson with translations (Trasparenze 8/22, San Marco dei Giustiniani). Her poems in English appeared in anthologies (Dedalus Press, Salmon Poetry, Arlen House), magazines (i.e. Banshee, The Stinging Fly, Southword, Poetry Ireland Review, The London Magazine,  Gutter), on public transports (Poetry Ireland), on air for RTÉ1, in the The Irish Poetry Reading Archive. In Italy, she published a novel (Tra mostri ci si ama, Transeuropa Edizioni, 2019) and two poetry collections (In giardino, Controluna Press 2019, Trasferimenti, Zona Contemporanea 2021). Viviana’s short stories, interviews and essays in Italian have been published in Literary Journals such as Italian Poetry Review, Nazione Indiana, Nuovi Argomenti, Balena Bianca. She is 2022 Irish Chair Of Poetry Student Prize winner and finalist in the Gregory O’Donoghue Poetry Competition 2024.
