Research Interests

Dr. Wei Zhang is a research fellow in computational mechanics/engineering design in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Hunan University in China. He has developed computational inverse technologies and methodologies for identification, modelling and design of advanced materials & composite structures under extreme load and uncertain environments. Prior to his current research post, he did his postdoctoral study at Inha University in South Korea where he led the research in inverse design and uncertainty analysis of fuel cell stacks. Dr. Zhang is an associate editor of Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology. He is a member of IACM.

Current themes of research include

  • Inverse problems (identification/modeling/design) under uncertainty

  • Reliability-based optimization design

  • Model verification and validation

  • Impact & crashworthiness analysis
