"Back to the Future: Exploring Liminality as Change Failure"
This developmental paper draws on the case of a large UK police organisation to examine what happens to an organisational change process when the past is constantly intruding on the present. Utilising a growing body of work on liminality as a theoretical lens, the paper explores the concept of ‘permanent’ liminality - which is of increasing interest to organisational scholars and which helps us to understand how a change process can get ‘fixed’ in transitional space.
