Department for the Economy. #NIGeothermalweek: Defining the vision for geothermal energy in Northern Ireland, £15,000

A range of events have produced a propitious window of opportunity for accelerating energy transitions – Northern Ireland Climate Act legislation mandating action on net zero targets, geopolitical conflict on the edge of the European Union leading to energy insecurity and inflationary pressures. These have brought the role of low zero carbon energy sources such as geothermal energy into sharper focus. Northern Ireland Geothermal Energy Week was held between June 13th – 17th 2022 at Riddel Hall, Queen’s University Belfast. As an inaugural event for the geothermal community in Northern Ireland, it comprised important stakeholder engagement and inclusive outreach activities. The focus of this report is on the activities during that week.
