HEA Teaching Development Grant for "Big Ears – learning to design sonic art for public ears", (£7.5k) 2012-2013

Prize: Prize (including medals and awards)

Big Ears is a student-led sonic arts initiative based at the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Belfast (SARC), a cutting-edge performance space geared towards new technological developments. Big Ears enables research students to design a unique event for 8-12 year olds and PhD students, culminating in a sonic mash-up that opens up ears and minds of all involved. Through the project, students gain valuable employability skills including skills in communication, team working, project design and project management. Big Ears is supported by experts in the area of performance, composition, ubiquitous mobile and gaming technologies and extends beyond the applying institution.
