Presentation Competition, ICMS and MAC-MIGS Modelling Camp 2024

Prize: Prize (including medals and awards)

Description

Awarded for an outstanding group presentation at the ICMS and MAC-MIGS Modelling Camp, where participants addressed real-world problems through mathematical modelling. The project was aimed at enhancing lung health initiatives for The Cheyne Gang, a charity supporting individuals with lung conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, through "singing for lung health" sessions. Our team used the BallMapper algorithm from topological data analysis and data from Public Health Scotland to identify regions most in need of health services. We reviewed clinical trials on singing for lung health to help design a data collection strategy for the Cheyne Gang and developed a logistic regression model to quantitatively assess the impact of these sessions after data collection. My team's innovative approach to a problem with very limited data led to us winning the camp's presentation competition and the insights are set to influence the Cheyne Gang’s strategic planning.
