In February 2013, the Queen's Annual Fund made an award of £2000 in recognition of the significance and importance of my new module Recording History (HIS2063). The award acknowledged the module's engagement with the important issues of community outreach and employability, which was achieved within the context of the School of History's traditionally high intellectual framework. The £2000 was earmarked for the purchase of costly recording equipment to be used for the student's oral history projects. High quality audio is required for the interviews because an outcome of the module is the use of the student's recordings in BBC Radio Documentaries. For example, three students from the 2012/13 class will work with the BBC to produce their documentary, 'Diamond from the Rough', for Radio Ulster and Radio 5 Live.
