Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) Advanced Fellowship

Prize: Fellowship awarded competitively

I was awarded a prestigious SERC Advanced Fellowship in 1986, in recognition of my work in a number of areas in astrophysics, including solar physics, studies of hot stars and the interstellar medium. Although awarded for a period of 5 years, I had to relinquish the Fellowship in 1989 when I was appointed to a Lectureship at QUB. To my knowledge, I was the first person at QUB to be awarded a major Research Council Fellowship.
