Abstract
This paper presents a design of a high gain pencil beam for a microstrip patch reflectarray to operate within the Ka-band for 5G communication systems. The composed patch reflectarray has advantages of a thin flat structure, compact size, and simple configuration. It consists of 16 X 16 unit-cell elements of varied-size square patches. The total dimensions of the reflectarray are a compact square size of 80 mm X 80 mm. The simulation results of the reflectarray with CST microwave studio software demonstrate a directive beam with a low sidelobe level, and a gain of 23 dB at 28 GHz, which makes this reflectarray suitable for 5G applications that may work at 28 GHz.
