A review of a pedagogical exercise: cognitive strategies within an architectural digital design methodology

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

This paper investigates the construct of digital design methodologies during architectural exploration. Pedagogical reviews of four Diploma studio projects are used to discuss cognitive strategies within a digital architectural framework. The studio projects were carried out by fifth year RIBA Part 2 students at the University of Nottingham in response to a common brief – Transient Event Building – which focused on innovative facade design for adaptable architecture. The review highlights a need to develop computing skills, research abilities and cognitive strategies in order to equip the next generation of architects with the ability to manage complex digital design methodologies.
