Abstract

Patient adherence to medication is a complex issue that is important to patients, health professionals, policy makers and health researchers. This article will provide some background to the phenomenon in relation to adherence, its cost to the health service, how adherence is measured in health research and how concordance and health psychology can aid practitioners in assisting patients in staying adherent to their medication regimens
