The acceptance of large wind power is a problem because of the randomness of wind power. Taking into account the complementary between wind power and hydropower, a solution was proposed by using hydropower plants to stabilize the unstable wind power output caused by the volatility and intermittent wind speed. The control of wind farm and hydropower plant coordinating operation was realized by control the hydropower plant. It was guaranteed that the hydropower plant and wind farm together could provide active power as schedule. Considering to the characteristics of hydro-generator set, lead differential control scheme was put forward, adding a lead differential control on conventional PID control (LDPID). The simulation results show that this method has better control performance than the conventional control scheme. The complementary system could provide a smooth power output, which reduces the impact on the grid.
