Abstract

The document Physical Activity and Cancer: recommendations for prevention and control was produced through an institutional partnership between the Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology (Sboc), José Alencar Gomes da Silva National Cancer Institute (INCA) and the Brazilian Society of Physical Activity and Health (Sbafs). Its objective is to bring the Brazilian population and health professionals closer to the best and most recent scientific evidence on the benefits of physical activity in preventing and controlling cancer. The document summarizes the most recent scientific evidence on physical activity for cancer prevention, as well as for reducing general and cancer-specific mortality in adults and the elderly (18 years and over). The target audience is health professionals, especially those most involved in promoting physical activity. The process of preparing the recommendations was systematized, transparent and reproducible, and, considering the quality and certainty of scientific evidence, the relationship between benefits and risks of the intervention, in addition to the context in which the recommendations will be applied.
