Abstract

Built East was the winning design in a competition run by the Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) and JP Corry in October 2017. This was the first time that the competition resulted in the construction of the winning design. After a period of fundraising, the pavilion was completed on the 19th June 2019. Eastside Partnership kindly provided a location for the pavilion, and agreed to act as client and host.

The design draws upon and takes forward previous research by Dr Rachel O'Grady, which looks at the civic opportunities of architecture when it is framed as a creative engagement with heritage. To deepen this engagement, an exhibition accompanied the structure.
