Abstract
It is shown that a simple interlaced pattern of doubly periodic square metal and dielectric patches constructed on a high dielectric constant substrate can redirect electromagnetic energy which is normally incident onto the surface away from boresight, thereby giving a means for RCS control. Between 15 and 30 dB of incident signal reduction over a 1-2 GHz bandwidth centred on 18.45 GHz is available by the method reported when a standard thickness microwave PCB material is used.
