Research output: Book/ReportCommissioned report

Abstract

The Commissioner for Children and Young People Jersey commissioned the Centre for Children’s Rights, Queen’s University Belfast, to conduct research on the lives of children in Jersey who have been subject to a Secure Accommodation Order, and deprived of their liberty. The research aimed to provide insights into and attain a deeper understanding of children’s lived experiences of secure accommodation and to demonstrate the reality of the impact of secure accommodation on children’s and young people’s lives. A key objective was to assess this through a rights lens.

The small sample size presents challenges in terms of maintaining participants’ confidentiality. As a result, this internal report remains confidential within the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for Jersey. A public report which summarises the key issues and rights implications has been prepared on the basis of the following analysis. This has also informed the preparation of a child friendly leaflet.
