Abstract

Sustainability is high on the food industry’s agenda: measuring and certifying environmental and carbon credentials, moving to net zero, working ethically with suppliers and customers, and much more. To address this, the presenters co-created a new module with academics, current and former students, employers, and industry professionals, seeking to embed both active learning and ESD into the heart of this module in a transformative manner. This presentation seeks to present a case study of ESD informed active learning and explore how the proposed pedagogical strategies imbue learners with an understanding of the UN SDGs, increase their abilities across the eight ESD competencies, and overall create future food industry professionals and leaders who hold sustainability at the core of their professional and personal practice.
