Computer Aided Methods for Animated Work Instruction Delivery

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

This article presents the benefits of using animated computer-aided design (CAD) data for work instruction delivery. Placed in the context of developments around product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, the work quantifies the benefits of animated work instructions for assembly based activities. Two rotational moulding exemplars are presented which cover finishing processes including the interaction between parts, fixtures and finishing tools. They combine the animated finishing process with supplementary information around customer information, tooling requirements and specific details related to how the part should be finished. The animated instructions enable technical authors to build products virtually and make informed decisions about around manufacture and finishing earlier in the product development cycle.
