Abstract
This work deals with the study of language policies of new speaker families of the Galician diaspora in Buenos Aires who are implied in the process of revitalization of Galician (Reyna-Muniain 2015/2018). The aim of our paper is to identify the role of a multilingual school that includes Galician in the language revitalization projects of new speaker families. We seek to contribute to the research field of minority communities’ diaspora, which have been extensively studied in reference to identity and culture (Rodríguez Brandeiro 2007), but not so much in relation to the family language policies aiming towards language revitalization. The ideological and strategical dimensions of language policy identified in the interviews with new speaker parents of Galician permit to identify similarities with previous research on autochthonous contexts, where it has been shown that multilingual schools that include a minority language constitute an important component of family language policies (Kasares 2014; Ortega et al. 2016; Nandi 2016a, 2018).
