Electromagnetic analysis and frequency response of plasma medium for high power microwaves

Abstract

Plasma is a dispersive medium that has shown peculiar properties when exposed to electromagnetic energy, especially for high-power microwaves. The main design parameters of plasma include gas type, gas pressure, and electron mobility. In specific enclosed conditions, the gas type and pressure remain fixed. At the same time, electron density can be controlled with an external power supply. In this paper, the properties of plasma parameters are studied and investigated at different power levels of electromagnetic energy. The frequency response and electromagnetic behaviours of plasma are analysed using a circuit model and verified by full-wave simulations. Finally, the performance of the plasma structure is verified experimentally.
