Abstract
This study aims to design a Cleaner Production Value Stream Mapping (CPVSM) as one of the powerful extended lean tools for improving the sustainability performance consist of Triple Bottom Line (i.e: economic, environment and social). The methodical contribution of this study is to generate relevant sustainability performance indicators suitable for CPVSM expansion at limited resources in Small Medium Enterprise food manufacturing sector. To exhibit the pertinency of CPVSM, a case study was conducted in one of the traditional soybean curd manufacturing companies in Malaysia. The assessment successfully proved an increase in productivity of 36%, process efficiency of 27% from internal process lean approach modification. The reduction of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent Emission at 304,534 kgCO2e provide 3R benefits to recycle the soybean solid waste into alternative bio-fuel. Training, layout modification through 5S activities and awareness program increase the employee motivation creates a conducive working environment compare to previous conditions. Finally, the recommended CPVSM was proposed to enhance the sustainability performance in external production floor areas and other sustainable metrics of the company as well as to estimate its future performance to promote sustainability by lean approach in Malaysian SMEs.
