Abstract
Map-poem for inner and outer voice.
A6 pamphlet (unfolds to A3 double-sided print).
Self-published and distributed at Household Festival, Belfast (2013).
Typography by Tony Moore.
Hidden Away is a fold-out pamphlet poem that invites the reader to "follow my words and retrace my steps, and hear what I heard in my head". The poem charts a journey through the suburban streets of the South Belfast's Ormeau area, encouraging the reader to follow the voice step by step and turn by turn as the text bends around corners and leaps across the folds of the page.
The text takes the writer and reader on a dérive - an afternoon intervention that aurally re-engages and re-adjusts the senses to lesser-noticed spaces and places. Part event score, part echo fantasy; the text invites the reader to connect the writer's inner-voice with their own outer-voice.
