Abstract
Professional degree courses such as nursing and midwifery can be a challenging experience for students due to the 50:50 construct of the program- 50% of the hours spent in the academic setting and 50% in the clinical environment such as hospitals, clinics and care homes. Students come from a diverse range of ages and educational backgrounds, this brings a variation of life experience, confidence in academic skills and critical thinking.
A fundamental of enrolment onto a professional degree is that there is often a governing body that sets out a Code of Conduct to abide by, in this instance the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct (Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), 2018). Undergraduate students need to understand the Code of Conduct in relation to what it is, who it sets out to protect and how it applies to them.
