Abstract
This paper presents an ongoing experimental investigation into the influence of aperture depth on the radiation characteristics of leaky coaxial cables (LCX), a class of leaky-wave structures. A series of LCX prototypes with varying aperture depths were fabricated and characterized through comprehensive measurements in an anechoic environment. Scattering parameters and radiation patterns were obtained to evaluate beam directionality and frequency-dependent radiation behaviour. The measured results reveal a distinct frequency scanning range of approximately 35°, quantifying the leaky-wave nature of the structures. The findings highlight the decisive role of aperture depth in the prediction of radiation efficiency, leakage rate, and beam-steering performance. The experimental analysis provides practical insights for the use of LCX in low-profile radar systems, signal interception, and distributed or pinching antenna arrays.
