Abstract

This paper contends that nursing, particularly in the UK, is at risk of losing its place in the academy. The paper aims to review the role of universities and the place of nursing within them; to highlight the tensions facing nursing and nurses in the universities; and to suggest some ways of overcoming these tensions.
